KJW Beretta M9 Review: A Reliable And Accurate Airsoft Pistol

KJW Beretta M9 airsoft pistol

Looking for a good, accurate, and reliable airsoft pistol with realistic recoil but without breaking a bank? Then KJW Beretta M9 Gas Blow Back Pistol is a great choice for you. While not the best airsoft pistol I tried, KJW Beretta M9 is full metal, durable and accurate airsoft replica that served me well during the last couple of years. It’s not without problems, but you’ll get what you pay for. So let’s dive in.

KJ-Works is a well-known and respected Taiwanese manufacturer which has been operating in the airsoft field for many years now. Their replicas are used by many players around the world and the Beretta M9 is a good example of their products – a good-looking and realistic replica made from quality materials.

The M9 platform has been used for many years thanks to its reliability, solidity, and ease of use. Although it doesn’t have a modern look like many of its competitors, after a long time of service it still manages to compete with the latest generation pistols. This replica, just like its real counterpart, is effective, practical, and safe to use. It is semi-automatic, with a perfectly working double-action mechanism. Its length (around 200mm) and weight (640g without the magazine) make it feel almost like a real thing. When the pistol gets loaded with a magazine filled up with BBs, it will reach the total weight of almost 1kg, which is incredibly similar to its real counterpart.

KJW Beretta M9 can mount both CO2 and green gas magazines, which will make it suitable for any player’s preferences. Magazines usually can contain up to 25 BBs and once you load it in the pistol, you will have to pull the slide to chamber the first round. The replica is fully made out of metal, apart from the grips and some small parts, and the same goes for the magazines, which will also add some weight to the weapon, making it feel just like the real one.

It comes with fixed iron sights, marked with white dots to make it easier to aim. The pistol features an ambidextrous safety mechanism, just in front of the hammer, which consist of a little lever that can be slid up and down: in the lower position, it will put the weapon in safe mode, and when lifted it will display a red dot under its previous position, which will signal that the safety is disengaged.

The tang over the grip will allow getting a comfortable and steady holding on the pistol. On both sides of the tang, just above the grip, the pistol features a groove whose purpose is to accommodate the thumb when the weapon is held, which will grant a steady aiming even while shooting with only one hand. The trigger works just like a real double-action pistol’s – it will require a pressure of about 3-4 kgs to be engaged to the wall, and then a pressure of about 1-2 kgs to fire the round. The slide lock is present on both sides; it will be engaged automatically when the pistol runs out of rounds and can be easily disengaged pulling it down with the thumb.

Under the slide, right in front of the slide lock, we can find the take down mechanism, that works as follows. While pushing the button on the right side, slide down the lever on the left side. If no magazine is mounted on the pistol, this will release the slide, allowing you to perform standard service on the weapon, just like you would do on a real one. Actually, the recoil spring and recoil spring guide can be taken down to get proper service.

The pistol grip is made of solid rugged plastic, which will prevent any movement and sliding of the pistol while shooting. Unfortunately, the magazine release button is only on the right side, so left-handed players will have to adapt to this feature.

The overall performance of the KJW Beretta M9 is more than satisfying, since it shoots powerfully (around 340 FPS) and accurately, giving you that nice recoil feedback on the hands, that will resemble the recoil of a real pistol.

The weak point of this airsoft pistol is its magazines, which will probably suffer from the following malfunctions: the gas valve will get stuck during the first uses, and there will be the need to substitute the o-ring of the valve. In addition, if you often drop your magazines, you will probably end up breaking the bottom cover, which will not dampen the magazine performance, but still, it will make them look less realistic and they will be way more difficult to handle. Both of these issues can be easily avoided if you take proper care and perform regular and careful service on your pistol and magazines and making sure not to mistreat your magazines too much.

While definitely not the best airsoft pistol, or even Beretta M9 replica you can purchase, this is still a very good choice for the price especially for beginners. But even long-time players and airsoft enthusiasts should check it out as KJW Beretta M9 is a really solid, well-built, metal airsoft replica with decent accuracy and pretty realistic recoil that performs well out of the box.
