G&G CM16 Review: Powerful And Accurate AEG That Works Great Out Of The Box

If you’re looking for a reliable, versatile, and affordable AR-15 platform-based rifle, search no more. The CM16 Raider L 2.0 manufactured by G&G is probably one of the most solid build, good looking, and performing replicas I ever had the pleasure to work with.

G&G Armament is a Taiwanese company that produces mid-to-high-end replicas, known for the efficiency of the electronic components it employs in making its products. Airsoft guns produced by this famous company are used and appreciated by players all over the world and are also used at a competitive level because of their high-performance characteristics. The CM16 is no different. Based on the classic AR-15/M4 platform, probably the most used and appreciated rifle platform, because of its ease of use, reliability, and customization options, the CM16 replica doesn’t only look great and aggressive, but it is also very reliable, accurate, and powerful.

Made out of solid technopolymer, which makes it sturdy, and lightweight, G&G CM16 mounts a PDW type stock, with 2 locking positions. This is a great feature since it allows you to consistently shorten the rifle, making it suitable both for open field and CQB scenarios. It features a very responsive electronic speed trigger, and a built-in MOSFET, which is also configurable to switch firing mode. In fact, even though the rifle’s fire selector can be set, as usual, on safe, single, and full auto, if you keep the trigger pressed for about ten seconds, the single fire mode will be switched to 3 rounds burst.

Moving to the top part of this airsoft gun, we can find an upper rail that runs until about half of the barrel of the weapon. On this rail, which is sold with the rifle, you will find the rear and front flip-up sights from G&G, which are well built, but a little narrow, so it can sometimes be challenging properly aiming to the furthest targets. The rifle mounts classic STANAG magazines, and easily works with almost any magazines’ brand I installed on it. Moving to the front part we can find a modern M-Lock handguard, which allows you to easily attach and detach any device you may want to put on your rifle.

Maybe the best part of this rifle is unquestionably its hop-up. In fact, despite being a mid-end replica, it has an outstanding shooting range, compared to other similar replicas, that will allow you to easily reach distant targets without sacrificing the accuracy of your shots. It shoots at about 325 FPS, which is pretty good for a rifle like that and can be used both with 7.4 and 11.1 batteries. I found it performing at its best using an 11.1 20c battery, being extremely careful not to shoot for more than one or two seconds per time.

A weak point of this rifle is its battery compartment, placed into the stock barrel, which is tight and short, and must also accommodate many electrical components, so you may want to get a mini stick battery. On the other hand, G&G sells an upgrade for that part of the rifle, which consists of an extended chamber to mount on the original one, that will allow storing bigger batteries.

Holding the weapon feels great since is lightweight (2500 g) and pretty compact (750-860 mm). The stock is pretty thin, and feels good while pointing, granting a stable aiming. Since this rifle bases its performance almost completely on its electrical components, it has nearly no recoil, which means you will sacrifice a bit of realism to get better performance while shooting. Handling this gun is a lot of fun and kind of easy. Due to its lightweight and compactness, there is no trouble in shooting from uncommon positions, performing any kind of reload, and transitions to other weapons.

Last but not least, one more strong selling point of this gun is its price. Actually, if you compare it with airsoft rifles by other brands in the same price range, you’ll certainly struggle to find a gun that matches this rifle’s performance. It’s a versatile airsoft gun that will satisfy the beginners and intermediate experienced players, that works great out of the box without any adjustment to reach its peak performance. We would recommend adding the lateral and lower rail on the handguard, getting the extended slot for housing the battery, and purchasing a red dot or any kind of aiming device. That being said, the overall rating of the rifle is more than good, due to its build quality, reliability, performance, and how good it feels, and how affordable it is.
