Airsoft Knife Rules: Should You Use a Knife In Airsoft

If you were wondering can you and should you use a knife in airsoft then you’ve come to the right place. In today’s article, we’ll talk about the rules regarding the use of knives in airsoft.

But if we talk about rubber airsoft knife, then it depends on a fact does your field allows the use of airsoft knives. If using a rubber knife is not against rules, then yes, you can use a knife in airsoft.

Knives in airsoft can be fun especially if you want to play stealthy – it can be actually pretty satisfactory for some players to sneak around and take their opponents out without firing a single round. But if you decide to get one, then buy a rubber one as plastic knives can actually hurt someone due to their hardened composition. Continue reading to find out how knife kills work in airsoft, what are the rules, and why you would want to use a knife in airsoft.

How Does Knife Kill Works In Airsoft And How To Perform It?

Ok, so your field allows you to use a knife and you might be wondering how exactly to perform a knife kill. Well in airsoft, knives are not used for stabbing someone or “slicing” their throat – a knife kill is scored by tapping your opponent anywhere on his body. And remember that this is the only allowed physical contact between opposing players. So once more – no stabbing, hitting, or slicing with airsoft knives even with rubber ones. Due to their hardened composition do not use plastic knives as you could hurt someone. Get a rubber one which is soft and flexible to avoid injuring opposing players. To perform a knife kill in airsoft approach your target silently and once they are within your arms reach, tap them (you could additionally say “knife kill”).

Just remember that real steel knives are never allowed on the airsoft field and you shouldn’t bring one with you.

Should You Use a Knife In Airsoft And When To Use It?

First check with your site is using a knife even allowed. Some sites don’t allow melee kills, some allow a touch with a hand, while other sites or MilSim events require the use of a rubber knife for silent kills.

So, should you have one and use it, depends on personal preferences. Some players don’t like to carry extra gear or find them pointless but there is nothing wrong with using a knife in an airsoft game. So if you like to use a knife, go for it, you could be pretty effective with it.

There are actually situations where they prove to be really useful. For example, on some Milsim events, knife kill is considered as a silent kill, so the opponent you take out with a knife will simply accept it quietly without calling the hit. Also if it is quiet on the battlefield or if you’re playing CQB and don’t want to reveal your position when shooting, you could silently approach your enemy and perform a silent kill by tapping him. One more reason to use a knife in airsoft is if you run out of ammo. You could also put a knife on your rifle as a bayonet which increases your range for a safety kill.

Airsoft Knife Rules

So if you decided to use a knife in airsoft there are a couple of rules you should be familiar with before playing.

No stabbing, hitting or slicing with knives in airsoft

As we already said, if you decide to use a knife in airsoft don’t actually stab someone. The same goes for hitting or slicing. Even with a floppy rubber knife, you can still hurt someone. So just tap your opponent with the flat edge of the knife.

Use floppy rubber knife

Get a bendy rubber knife. DO NOT use a real steel knife.

Do not throw your knife

It is not a Hollywood movie and you’re not Rambo – don’t ever throw your knife at other players.

Summary

While some players see them as kind of pointless because you could get a silent kill just by touching someone with your hand, some players like to add more realism to their experience and view it as a way of leveling up. Doing silent kills with fake rubber knife requires skill, and patience so for some can be more amusing and satisfactory. If you decide to use it remember the rules – use only fake rubber ones (and not a real steel knife), just tap your opponents (don’t stab them) and don’t throw a knife at anyone. Also performing a silent kill is not that easy because you have to be incredibly close to someone, which will probably get you killed.

Using a fake knife in airsoft is a case of personal preference and not a case of “should” or “should not”. Just make sure that a field where you’re going to play allows the use of a rubber knife.
