Airsoft Game Types And Scenarios: 13 Most Interesting Airsoft Games That You Should Try

As we said airsoft games often range from capture the flag, team deathmatch, close-quarters battle, king of the hill, or MilSim (military simulations). They can range from short skirmishes to full weekend events and on the field you’ll probably see a mix of all these types present.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at different airsoft game types and scenarios.

Team Deathmatch (TDM)

In team deathmatch, an extremely competitive and probably the most popular airsoft game type, teams fight each other until all the players on one team are eliminated. We’re sure that fans of video games will be pretty familiar with this game type. Each team has a pool of respawns and when a player is eliminated, he must go to the re-spawn location where he can then re-enter the game.

Military Simulation (MilSim)

MilSim, which stands for Military Simulation, is a more serious, strategic, and slower-paced objective-based game modeled after real military scenarios. MilSim game type encompasses different objectives and tends to be more realistic. One match can last from one hour to 40+ hours and this type of airsoft game is something that really sets airsoft apart from other shooting sports like paintball.

Capture the Flag (CTF)

Capture the Flag is one more pretty popular airsoft game type that will be familiar to video games fans. In CTF or Capture the Flag game type each team has its own flag and the goal of each team is to capture the other team’s flag and bring it back to their base. This is a more objective-based type than TDM.

Close Quarters Combat (CQB)

Close Quarters Combat is a short, high-intensity type of airsoft game played in close quarters in which the objective is to eliminate the other team. It’s like a TDM but it is played in close quarters as the name indicates.

Close Quarter Battle or CQB challenges players differently from any other kind of scenario: narrow spaces, short-distance clashes, corners, lights, walls, doors, and furniture all influence your play style. You can check our article Airsoft CQB Tips And Tactics: 12 Tips For CQB Domination to learn about different CQB tips and tactics which should help you dominate close-quarter battles.

Also, many airsoft guns that would be particularly suitable in different situations, lose much of their effectiveness in CQB because of the clutter, weight, or lack of speed during the movements. When it comes to airsoft game types, there are so many different variations and scenarios from classic ones, like team deathmatch or capture the flag, to the ones modeled after real military scenarios.

King of the Hill

In this type of airsoft game, one team is positioned at a specific location. This is commonly a hill, where defending team is barricaded protecting a flag. The other team must attack their position and take the flag. The winner of the game is the team that is closest to the flag when the time is out.

Bomb

This type of airsoft game can be considered as the opposite of Capture the Flag as one team must take a bomb with a timer into the other team’s base and defend it until time runs out. The opposing team must eliminate their opponents and dismantle the bomb.

Speedsoft

Speedsoft stands in stark contrast to MilSim. While Milsim is a slower-paced, more realistic, strategic, and objective-based game modeled after real military scenarios, Speedsoft is a fast-paced competitive type of game (it’s actually more like paintball but with airsoft guns). There are no so many restrictions like in MilSim and the pace, amount of ammunition, and rate of fire is much higher than in the MilSim game. If you want a fast, aggressive, and pulse-pounding type of airsoft game, Speedsoft might be for you.

President

President, sometimes called “VIP”, “Escort” or “Secret service”, is a little different than other airsoft game types. In this exciting, strategic, and fun airsoft game, one team must protect and escort an unarmed player who is called  President (or VIP). The main goal of this team is to escort the president to the safety zone.

The other team, comprised entirely of assassins, must stop the other team and kill the president before he reaches the designated safety point.

Hostage Rescue

I think this type of airsoft game is self-explanatory. While one team plays as hostage guards the other team plays as hostage rescuers.

The hostages are left without equipment and are placed at the enemy team’s base or on various locations with guards around them. Rescuers must release the hostages and escort them to a specific area while the guards must prevent them from rescuing the hostages.

Zombies

This is a little different but increasingly popular type of airsoft game. Players are divided into two teams, humans and zombies, but in a way so that there are 4 humans for every zombie player. Human players must work together to find all of the cure items on the map while zombies must stop and infect them.

Zombie players don’t have any weapons but they are also more damage resistant than other players and can take three shots when they must lay on the ground and remain there for 30 seconds before they can move again. As zombie players aren’t armed they must touch the human player and in order to take them out – actually, the human player is then considered as infected and he also becomes a zombie.

The game is over when zombies infect all human players or if human players find all cure items on the map.

Free for All

I think this airsoft game is pretty self-explanatory. There are no teams, no objectives, just players pitted one against others. Your main objective is to not get hit and try to take down as many players you can. The last man standing wins the game.

Assassin

The premise of this one is pretty simple. One player, usually the most experienced and skilled one, is an assassin who must find and kill all other players while they try to complete their objectives and kill an assassin before he takes them out one by one.

War Reenactments

As the name suggests, in this scenario players are recreating historical battles like World War 2 and The Vietnam War. Of course, this means they are using period weapons, clothing, and gear to reenact as close as possible.
